Journal Eight: Writing

      In reading this book i learned to always keep it exciting Thomas Harris had something interesting happen in every chapter. Hannibal Rising gives me no ideas other than making my character emotionally distressed.

Journal Seven: Author

     I think the author wrote the book to make money. The author is trying to tell us to not take things for granted because any day we could lose it all and that sometimes people are insane for a reason. I have read the first few chapters of red dragon the second last book in the Hannibal series. I will finish reading this series because im curious as to what happens next.

Journal Six: Mood

     While reading Hannibal Rising i felt empathetic towards Hannibal because he had to go through so muck and had a bad life with everything gone wrong. The saddest incident was when Mischa was being dragged out of the house and then killed by Grutas. The most unusual incident was when Hannibal injected himself with thiopental sodium and remembered what happened to Mischa. I remember that Hannibal was just trying to get revenge for what happened to Mischa and anyone he felt close to. The mood of the story changes dramatically and abruptly from Hannibal living in the hunting lodge with his parents to his parents dead along with his mentor and being chained to a banister with his sister while Nazis occupy his house.

Journal Five: characters

     The main characters in Hannibal Rising are Hannibal, Lady Murasaki. Inspector Popil and the group of people who stole from Hannibal and ate his sister. I liked Hannibal and Lady Murasaki. Inspector Popil was a very boring kind of arrogant guy and i didn't like him for that. As for the people who ate Mischa they were terrible people and just before Hannibal killed them they asked for forgiveness even though they were trying to make him feel bad seconds before. None of the characters were like anyone i know. In the story no one changed except for Hannibal. Near the middle of the book Hannibal became very violent and attacking people more so than he had  before but he was always defending someone.

Journal Four: Evaluation

      Thomas Harris did really well with this book because every place, piece of art and word in other languages were correct so he evidently spent a lot of time researching his information. At one point in my reading I wanted to visualize the picture that had been stolen from Lecter Castle so i googled it and the correct painting came up. The Hannibal series is based on cannibalism that happened in eastern Europe during WWII. Hannibal Rising reminded me of the inheritance cycle because of how much thought the author put into the books.

Journal Three: Experiences

     Hannibal Rising in its self did not remind me of anything in my own life but Mischa was almost oblivious of what was happening around her. I remember when i was little and i didn't really know what was happening i just kind of went with  the flow. I have read other books similar to this only because of the hero quest pattern.

Journal Two: Reactions

    Hannibal Rising was shocking because of how Hannibal turned out i understand he was getting revenge for what happened to his sister but he had many opportunities to  turn the case over to the police. The book was sad yet very good. Hannibal's life was completely ruined because of the war, both his mother and father killed and then his sister months after i don't wonder why he was disturbed near the end. I would recommend this book to people who are interested in how others think or like gory type books.

Journal One: Questions

     In Hannibal Rising there were a few chapters where there was confusion, for example the chapter where Hannibal goes to the prison to get the consent of Louis Ferrat to donate his body to Hannibal's school. In my opinion this chapter had no reason to be in the book and it was boring.

  I think the author put important information that lead to what happened to Mischa in every chapter so the reader could make a hypothesis. I liked this because I could see the character progress and it kept the story exciting when there were key events in every chapter.

   If I were the author I would take out the boring chapter and possibly have Hannibal get his castle back. Other than that the author did amazing and I wouldn't change a thing. I liked the conclusion because it was exciting and it answered all of the questions that I had. My favourite character would be Hannibal  because he thinks so differently from everyone and it is interesting to see how he thinks.
